If you don't know who he is, you should. He's really good!

You got that package with all the songs right? |
I sure did (aehm, I have my ways ). I'm more into him than I ever got into Damien actually (sorry Damien, don't know how often you visit Lost Video Islands but if you did this time - sorry, I love Ryan now... )
I just love So Ordinary! I think it was one of those songs you posted in that Rate the song-thread. His voice... mhmymhmhm...
*slaps self*
Wait. This was the Damien-thread. Sorry again Damien.
Hobbes wrote: | I almost want to recommend some more musical geniuses, but there's just nobody else I know who can hold a candle to Damien and Ryan . I mean, I can think of plenty good songs as good or better, but artists? Nobody who can make pretty-much every song so amazing . |
Yeah, I agree. There are very few times that I really feel like I've bought an album with an artist/band, and then felt satisfied with all of the songs. On an album there's always those songs that you love, and then those songs you just don't like. It doesn't matter how much you want to like the song just because it's that artist or band - you just can't. That's the way I feel.
And when I finally find an artist/band that has a sound I like - that also makes great albums and songs - well, then it's kind of hard to not like it
Very often it's people I know (or in this case, A GOD) who tells me about a band or an artist that I later tend to listen to a lot.
With that said (wooops, that was a long answer.), I think that Ola Salo (see banner) is a musical genious (see banner once again ). They're a great band (if you like that kind of music) and there's probably only one or two songs (out of 45) that they've done that I don't like. And by the way, I'm talking about his band The Ark.
Just a recommendation.

YEEEEES.
...actually, I've never told him that he made me into a Damien-fan . I don't want him to have that kind of satisfaction of finally "knowing what's the best music"... if I did I would hear it for ages and ages... |

Yep, that was the one
I am personally partial to "We Might Fall". That vid for it is uncanny - it's pretty much EXACTLY what I would have done (well, maybe a bit different). I was always kinda considering "I should do a vid to that song" but the only thing keeping me from doing it was not knowing Flash (a Lost vid just wouldn't work). But damn, they beat me to it!

Oh yeah!
How about we rename it "Damien Rice and other musical geniuses" lol
The thing that sucks here is Ryan is too unknown to get ahold of his music by conventional means So you actually have to go the un-conventional route: http://www.amazon.com/
He's still got 2 albums that I haven't got ahold of - Stage, his old band, and Dark Horse - with all his live stuff. I think I might get one

Yeah, I kept a few of the songs you posted there, and got a few others . I love "It takes a fool to remain sane" now lol |

Yay! He's got his own thread now
Hope a lot of LVI'ers will take a bite from the Ryan-cake
He's really great. I have Warren Almighty to thank for making me discover his music
I like all of the songs on his album (gosh they're many, unusually many... most of them are really amazing though!). The thing about it is that I normally don't listen to Ryan-ish kind of music (except Damien there) but now I do it a lot. Awesome, awesome.
I was actually a bit surprised when I saw that cover of "Songs from..." for the first time, it had a Parental Advisory-mark - but then I realised that maybe it's because of all suicide-songs?
I want to get the Stage-album but I don't know how to get the hold of it... (except from amazon ) Hopefully my dad can get the hold of it SOMEHOW when he goes to Miami (he's there once a month). But is it as good as Ryans album do you think?
(off-topic:)
....btw, have you heard The Ark's song Calleth You, Cometh I? I'm planning a Skate vid for it when I get Vegas (birthday coming up... in May ) I LOVE that song. It will be kind of AU ...

Well, there's swearing on a few tracks, and since I didn't know what I was getting was the stupid clean version they've edited the swearing out of Back of Your Car and "O"
And only a couple suicidish-songs anyway lol. All the great albums have at least a couple!

not yet, but I will! lol

Really? You should check a few of the better Snow Patrol songs (not the overly mellow ones) or .. some others... hmmm... a bit of Augustana(?) if you want to continue with this "genre" LOL

I dunno. It looks promising though - like "Songs from...", only a bit more rock .
If you get "Stage", I'll get "Dark Horse" and we can share! ? |

Ah! With a bit more rock? Well, that sounds very promising My dad HAS to get it for me (...and you )
If it has more rock, then it's totally perfect. I can only image how great those songs are...
Hmm... I know I'm probably never gonna be able to se Ryan live, since I live in Sweden (maybe if I move to the US, okay, but that's a couple of years away) but have you considered ever seeing him live?
Would be cool...
And btw! What do you know - a swedish TV-channel is airing Rockstar Supernova now! Guess who's gonna watch it?
And while I'm at it... I've got The Ark's new album, and this song made me think of Ryan while listening to it. I love it, pretty long, but still.
I think you're gonna like it It's not Ryan, but it's close... Hehe.
The Ark - "Uriel"
(And this is the time I go fjortis and say; Ola and Ryan in my heart! ) _________________

Well, he's mostly in New York, which is just about as much of a world away to me as it is to you Otherwise I would be seeing him live .
Checking out "Uriel" now! Sounds great! (a lot like Ryan! )

lol you're gonna be so pissed when they send him off (for no good reason Though probably because they don't do good music like his, they just hit things loud. Behold the artists of a past age...)
You know, it occurs to me that there really isn't anyone in this thread aside from us . Oh well . Maybe some lurkers will read this and like this stuff lol. |

Yeah, I've read he got cut for no good reason But I think Ryan's career will last for a lot more time than the others' ever will... At least I hope so

We're alone in this thread? No kidding?
Well, I guess it's their loss... Hehe. I like this conversation anyway _________________

Actually, I was down at a small musicstore (they have all kinds of music people haven't heard about, you know, totally unknown bands and artists...) in the city yesterday, and I probably looked through all CD's until I was brave enough to ask the guy in at the counter (I have this problem about asking people who work in a store of any kind... Dunno why, I've always tried to find the album I'm looking for myself. Of course, it could be stubborness )... But anyway! He said he never heard of the albums I was looking for, "Stage and Songs from..." (I mean, I want the real copy of the album - now I only have the songs on my computer), but he told me I could come back with a "small list" of albums I'm interested in and he would look into it and see if there's anything he might order. So we'll see!
But then again, I'm going to Helsinki and Stockholm in just two weeks, and I know there's a lot of stores in those cities, so I can go Ryan Star-hunting while I'm there...
Or. I'll just go the un-conventional way. But once again - I'm stubborn. _________________

I like hard copies when you're paying for it too - that's why I ordered it from Amazon and got it delivered to me rather than just going digital. I think that's what I'll do with Dark Horse in this case lol.

LOL why am I not surprised? I bet I couldn't find anything by him here, lettalone in Sweden |
