|
|
I just downloaded the trial of Sony Vegas 8.0, and I tried to import an .avi file. It just gave me the audio, so I changed the FourCC code, and tried it again. It still just gave me the audio. If I can't get it to work, I could run it through WMM and save it as WMV, but that would be a hassle. Help? _________________

As far as I know changing it through WMM is the only way to get it to work. I've never managed to get an .avi to work unfortunatly. It's so annoying Sorry I can't be more help _________________ Steph xxxxx |

I have to use WMM to render all of my AVI files into WMV, unfortunately. I've only managed to get Vegas (mine is actually Vegas Movie Studio 6.0) to give me the video on an AVI file twice: the first time it kept messing up so that the first clip on the timeline kept changing to whatever the last clip I put on the timeline was! The second time I was actually able to make a whole vid without it messing up. But I can't count that happening again. It must have something to do with whatever the AVI was made with DivX or xvid and what versions and all of that.
Sorry, that's not very helpful, I know! It's a pain to always have to render your footage into WMV for it to work but it's the most reliable way I know of to make sure Vegas will use it. |

There's an encoder you can get, but my computer crashed last week and I lost everything. I believe SassyLostie knows how to find it, but I could be wrong. |

Same with me: I have to convert all my files to *.wmv because Vegas is causing a lot of troule with avi-files. If you need a converter, you could try WinAVI or Xilisoft Video Converter. They're both good and reliable. _________________

Yeah, I use a converter. Try Super. It's very good and free but it took ages for me to figure out how to download. Once you find it and get used to the programme it's easier to use too |

Thanks, guys. If I actually buy Sony Vegas, I'll probably try getting a converter. But since I don't know if I'll keep it once my trial's over, I'm not going to take the trouble right now. Till then I'll just convert it in WMM. That works for now. Thanks for your help. _________________

Hi,
I downloaded a trial version of Sony Vegas and had exactly the same problem as you have and many others seem to have. Got audio but no video when importing avi file.
I didn't want to have to convert them in WMM - it takes far too long for all the episodes. So instead I tried to find a quick converter. The link I am putting below shows you step by step how to do it with screenshots of the converter program and contains the download link for the converter as well.
I tried this program and every episode works perfectly in Sony Vegas. Only took about 10 seconds per an episode to convert - can't ask for more :0)
The link:

This is not my tutorial - it is just one I came across when trying to solve the avi problem.
Hope it works for you all just as well as it did for me :0)
You need to have DivX installed on your PC though before converting. |
