Hey there everyone!
So just recently, WMM is giving me major major problems. I had a half completed video file, and now when I open the file to finish my video, everytime I drag a new clip onto the timeline, or storyboard, it says, "A unexpected error has occurred, and Windows Movie Maker needs to close." I send the error report everytime, but it doesn't make a difference. I click 'debug' too, and it doesn't do anything.
Then, I opened a brand new file, dragged the same clip, and nothing happened. It functioned normally.
Does anyone know what might be happening? Is there a better movie program I could download, but that it would still open up my saved file? I really don't want to lose this video, it was a lot of hard work and it was almost halfway done!
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!! |

It sounds like you may have a "bad" clip somewhere on your timeline. Will it let you render/save as movie what you do have done? Give that a try and see if it will. If that works, then try taking that and using it to replace all of your clips in your project (save your original project then rename it so you don't end up accidentally destroying the original in case you need to go back to it ). That might let you finish your vid from there. If it won't let you render it, then it's that "bad" clip that's hidden in there somewhere that's probably preventing it.
For some ideas of how to deal with that, you can try the Troubleshooting section of the WMM Guide and that will hopefully give you a way to find that clip and work around it.
You can try trial versions of almost any of the other editing software out there such as Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio (which is what I use and is a much cheaper alternative to the very expensive full version, missing only a couple of the more advanced options ). However the only thing that can open the WMM project will be WMM itself, unfortunately.
Best of luck getting your vid finished! |

Okay... something is disastrously wrong with WMM. I think I've sourced the 'bad clip', but this is the problem- that bad clip is all over my video! And, this video had no trouble until just this week. Before that everything was running smoothly... I attempted to delete my audio, so I could save just the clips I have, but when I clicked on it the whole window just disappeared. No error notice or anything. Just poof! So now I'm attempting to save the video, but it has an extended amount of audio with no clips... so I have no idea how that will save, or work!
I think i've had it with WMM and all it's inconsistencies and freezing. I might start from scratch with a new program...
And your guide was very helpful! It didn't solve this problem exactly, but showed me how to solve a whole other mess of them! |

Oh, that's SOOOO annoying! I've had WMM do that to me before, too. You just click on something and it just basically explodes with no warning!

Aw, thanks! I'm glad if I could help a little. But eventually I think every vidder reaches a point where you just can't stand WMM and all of it's problems any longer and you have to upgrade to something else. Good luck! Hope you're finally able to do your vid in one way or another! |
