Much to my surprise, today, one of my videos (Six Feet Under Water) was removed from YouTube for copyright infringement. It was removed for the use of the song, and NOT for the LOST clips.

So I began to think about the possible reasons why this video was removed and no others. I've come up with a theory:
1) The song is brand new, right off of Linkin Park's new album which was just released some weeks ago.
2) Linkin Park is a "big" band.
3) Warners, the record company, is a heavy hitter.
4) I listed the song and artist in the tags.
My suggestion to you all is that you don't include the artist and/or song in your tags, even if the song isn't brand new and is by a relatively unknown artist. I have a feeling that this probably wasn't "reported" but rather there was some kind of moniter going on since the album is brand new. I'm actually going to go through and remove the song/artist tags from the rest of my videos.
I never have believed (and I still don't) that LOST clips used in music videos will get our videos taken down. The people behind the show have gone on record in interviews, talking about watching some of the very videos posted on this site. I think they understand that having them removed for copyright infringement would only alienate fans and that these vids are actually great promotion for the show. But we cannot say the same for every musical act that we choose to stick in a video. So take care, fellow vidders!

Geesh, that sucks about your vid, KC!  But thanks for passing on that timely piece of advice! I've always tagged my YT vids very simply, usually just with "Lost" and then the character/ship name, though not because I was being careful, I was just being lazy!  However, it may help my vids to fly under the music industry's radar just a bit, who knows? I certainly won't be tagging with the song/artist's name in the future, now!

Thanks for the notice KC! That sucks, Youtube can go to hell!  I just changed all my tags though i usually use pretty old songs, but still its better to be safe. thanks agian!!! |

Wow that sucks. 
I dont think Ive ever put any of the band/song info in my tags, because I was kinda worried about that happening. Some bands take it as a compliment. Others get really upset about it.
I usually title my vids with the song names. Im going to change that.
I'm going to double check all my tags just to make sure nothing is in there but my LOST info.

Sorry about your vid KC  but thanks for the tips... and if I may add... I actually saw a Lost vid using Ryan Adams' Wonderwall being removed recently. It was removed by the warner music group. Freaked me out because I used the same song recently... The person that posted the vid had Ryan Adams in the tabs. Mine was left alone - I had not included the singer in the tabs.
And also, I've seen one of the Sawyer vids mention in the Lost magazine... so it's really not the Lost clips, like KC said, it's the music used.
So like KC said, DON'T 'tab' the artist!!!

Btw, my YT Account is my second, because they deleted the first Account (dude, nobody else would say that scenes from queer as folk are inappropriate -.-)
