August 2010
Contest: "Series Recap"
Deadline: September 3rd - extended

The Details

Now that Lost has ended we know the fate of our Losties. Whether you loved or hated the end, Lost has been an amazing, one-of-a-kind show. It's been a part of our lives for the past 6 years and we will all miss it very much.

It's time now to put your vidding skills to the ultimate test, and make a recap vid of the entire series! What moments stood out as highlights? What characters made an impact? We want to see what parts of the show you consider important enough to include in your recap video. Feel free to include on-and/or-off-island footage, flashbacks, flashforwards, and flash-sideways.

How can you recap a 6-season-long show in a 10-minute video, you might ask? That's part of the challenge! There is definitely enough material to make hours-long recap vids, but videos longer than 10 minutes usually don't hold the viewer's attention, not to mention Youtube's 10 minute limit.

We're starting this contest early so you will have the whole summer to work on your recap! Remember, the point of a recap is for a non-viewer to be able to understand what's going on as much as possible, so feel free to go in chronological order (the order we were shown things as the episodes aired) or use the events like flashbacks/flashfowards/real time/etc. in whatever order you think best would make your recap understandable.

Have fun and good luck everyone!

Be sure to read our new contest information for help with questions you may have!

The Rules

Specific Contest Rules:

• -Has to tell the story of Lost, highlighting the moments you feel were important or outstanding.
• -Running time should be no longer than 10 minutes. We suggest the 5 - 10 minute range.
• - NO non-Lost footage, AU, Crossovers or Trailers.
• -The more creative, the better. Don't be afraid to take risks.
• -When entering your video on the Submit page, you MUST enter "August 2010 contest submission" exactly in your vid's description.

General Contest Rules:

• - Contest submissions should be entered through the Submit page
• - All regular submissions Rules apply.
• - Only one entry per vidder
• - Videos already submitted and RELEVANT can be submitted again, but we would rather see something fresh. (Please contact a CM if you wish to enter a previously-submitted video)
• - Please do not use Megaupload, Rapidshare or Yousendit to host your files.
• - Keep in mind that however you choose to host your video, it must be available for download at least until the end of the month. If we can not access your video at the time of judgment it will not be considered.
• - Have fun!

Great contest idea.I actually had a couple of recap ideas I had planned to do
before the show ended but I never got them done so now I can do them and enter one in the contest.

I'm glad we have all summer to work on this video.

In my video I was thinking about possibly using some quotes from castmember's interviews as audio underlays in my video.Would that be breaking the rule about non-Lost footage? I wouldn't be using the video part, just the audio.

Using castmember audio would be fine for this, Macaila! So feel free to use it in your vid if you like

Just a reminder not to forget that the August contest is already up! This definitely will be a challenging one to pull off so you won't want to wait until the last minute. Hope you're out there plotting your strategies along with Macaila!

I have a couple quick questions.

Is there still a 10 minute limit? Belle MacFarlane posted elsewhere that Youtube now had a 15 minute limit.I didn't know if Youtube's new limit would have any impact on how long our videos could be.

Will there be any extensions granted for this contest since we've had since June to work on it?I've changed my mind on how to do my video several times and I just recently got started on the one I'll submit.I think 21 days should be enough for me to get done, but some days I don't have any time to work on it.

This is a really hard contest. But it's reminded me of some Lost scenes I'd forgotten about over the years.
