Sorry, another quick question. Would My Bloody Valentine be okay to use? I thought I'd ask because there aren't actually any ghosts or monsters in it, but throughout the movie it makes you think there are? I just wasn't sure if it'd fit the requirements, so I thought I might as well double-check. Thanks! _________________

Very cool idea!!!
Not sure if I'll be able to enter, but just in case, would Identity count as a horror movie? (I'm assuming Scream and its sequels would, right?) _________________

Elyse; no problem Double check all you want And yep, My Bloody Valentine is definitely a horror flick
Bec, not sure about Identity. To be honest I haven't seen it but the trailer seemed more Thriller to me The Scream series however would qualify _________________

Thanks Kat! I suspected Identity might come down on the thriller side, so I figured I'd ask. I unfortunately don't own the Scream movies, but if I get inspired I'll see if I can get my hands on them. _________________

Is The Sixth Sense horror or thriller? Elyse and I have been arguing about this since she told me what the contest for this month is. I wanna try Sixth Sense, but she says it doesn't count as horror....anyone? _________________

sixth sense was on the 100 top horror films list i was just reading, i think it can qualify as horror but of course its up to the CMs...i hope horror just doesnt qualify as blood/gore, cliches things like that cause there are quieter but still horrorish films and imo i think those are scarier
im not doing this but just wondering if alfred hitchcock films like the birds, pyshco would count as horror or thriller, cause their also on top horror lists..just want to know how you guys are defining thriller vs horror? |

I would see Sixth Sense either way. It is a pretty freaky movie, definitely scary enough to pass as horror, but has that equal balance of thriller/horror. I would also think that The Birds and Psycho would qualify as horror. I'm not a CM or anything, but the Birds scared the bejezus outta me, I'd classify it as horror anyday. Pretty much anything Alfred Hitchcock I would. /shudder |

Yep, that one definitely counts, I'd say.
Eryn, we'll get back to you as soon as we can about The Sixth Sense.
Saben, we'll also get back to you about our take on thriller vs horror, ASAP! |

Okay, Eryn, our take on "The Sixth Sense" is that it's more thriller than horror, though admittedly it's in a bit of a murky sort of gray area between the two. But our combined opinions is that it sways more to the thriller side than horror and so isn't as much what we're looking for for this particular contest.
Saben, in the thriller vs horror discussion, we really can't give you any hard and fast rule on what is and isn't horror or thriller in this context. Pretty much all we can do is take it on a case-by-case basis. So, if you ask our opinion about a movie, then we'll do our best to let you know whether it seems to be a horror movie or just a thriller, as it relates to this particular contest. It's tough, I know, because it's subjective, no doubt many lists and personal opinions will differ from ours, but again, we're looking at this just as it relates to this contest, not in the grand scheme of horror and thriller movies. |
