|After an unfortunate incident recently, we thought it was time for a bit of a refresher course on what isn't allowed when it comes to voting.
1. Grudge voting is absolutely not allowed. Your vote is being cast for one vid at a time, not for or against the vidder themselves. If you should happen to have a grudge or some other sort of personal problem with a vidder, please be honorable enough to simply NOT vote on their vids if you don't feel like you can do it impartially. Voting down an entire set of a vidder's work is most definitely against our rules and can result in you being banned from LVI.
2. Creating a second account to vote Gold for yourself, to add extra Gold votes to your friends' vids or to carry out grudge voting against another vidder also can result in you being banned.
3. Remember that your vote is supposed to reflect the skill of the editing that went into a video. It isn't meant for you to show that you hate the song, the character or the ship. If you can't stand a certain song/character/ship/fandom, then please simply don't watch that vid. Casting a low vote just because you don't like the song or the characters used in it is simply not fair.
4. While we certainly understand your friends and family wanting to show support for your vids, please remember that these votes are not supposed to be a popularity contest. Gold Viewers Picks are meant to be awarded by your fellow vidders in honor of your editing skill. Having a group of your friends and family put a pack of Gold votes on each of your vids undermines what the VPs are meant to represent.
Many of you can attest to the fact that the Council does watch the voting and will privately question you if we feel there's something amiss with your vote. We don't do that to try and prevent anyone from casting their legitimate vote, we're just ensuring that it is a legitimate vote. 99.9% of the time, we've found that the votes have all been honest opinions and we don't interfere with them. In the .1% of the time when they're not, then be assured that we'll take the appropriate steps to prevent the system from being misused.
We always regret when we're forced to take disciplinary action but our responsibility is to keep things fair for the entire membership, for all of you, and we take that responsibility seriously.
If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact any of the Council and we'll be glad to help you in any way we can.
