I'll try to explain it...
AU stands for Alternative Universe, like - two people on Lost, that would never have/has ever had a relationship (of any kind) in reality, actually have one in your vid. You make it look like it.
Hope that answers your question, but I think there's other LVI'ers who can explain this better _________________

Wait... i thought it was like situations that never happened, i dont want it to be a shipper video. (dont think i could do the shippers justice making one) |

I guess meandi was just giving an example there, AUs don't have to be shippy. You can create a story where.... I don't know, after Michael leaves with Walt, he actually comes back and helps Kate and Sawyer escape from the Others...
Or you make it look like Jack was killed in the Pilot episode and show how things would be if it'd happened.
It's just that most people make shippy AU vids, pairing two people they like but that never got/will get together on the show. |

AU can be anything as long as it isn't something that actually happened on the show. In other words, a vid about Sawyer and Kate in a relationship isn't an AU vid, it's canon (coming directly from the show itself). A vid about Sawyer and Claire in a relationship is AU because that didn't happen (yet ) on the show.
However, AU extends beyond just ships! A vid about Michael being Walt's father is canon. A vid about Jin being Walt's father is AU (and my, that would be an interesting one to pull off, hm? ). A vid about what happens to the Losties after they're rescued is AU because that hasn't happened yet. So it's basically anything that hasn't been shown or supported on the show is considered AU in a vid. Typically, though, most AU vids tend to be shipper ones where the vidder is "trying out" a new pairing.
Thanks for jumping in there and explaining, Johanna! |

Di: Yep, I was just taking an example ... though, as I see it, most AU vids are ships... or at least I think so? Anyway, hope I didn't confuse you wolffootball37
I think Di and Aislynn are better explainers than I'll ever be
But... at least I never cross-post anyone. _________________
