What program do you guys use to make icons/banners/etc. Just curious.

I used Photoshop Elements 4.0 - that's the cheap (just under 100 bucks) version of Photoshop itself and I don't find it limiting at all as to what you can do with it - although I know it doesn't have Curves.

When I started making icons (see my icon thread) I was using this old archaic version of iPhotoPlus by Ulead. I think it was version 4.0 coincidentally. Anyway, it was copyright 1991!!! So this upgrade to PSE4.0 has made a HUGE difference in my graphics. You can probably tell when I switched over to the new program based on quality alone. I think it was right after the Amelie batch.

I use Adobe Photoshop 6.0. It's pretty good (you could probably do a helluva lot more than my measly skills pull off), but I still wish I had a more advanced program.

Haha be quiet! I did learn a bunch of stuff by my lonesome, and part of that I think comes from having a shitty program for years and having to learn "tricks" to get around the programs shortcomings.

And when I got PSE4 I was able to figure out a bunch of stuff on my own, but in addition to that, I did look at some tutorials from a couple of LJ communities.

The most popular one is icon_tutorial
Which has a lot of stuff from all different programs.

Later, I created my own. Elementheads! It is for PS Elements specifically, but Elements is such a simple program all of the tutorials will probably translate into any other program, ESPECIALLY other versions of photoshop.

So if you want to learn some stuff, that's a good way to do it.

(Okay, so I can at least say what you probably already know and don't even care because clearly I don't do great works of artist merit: I use Paintshop Pro 8 and Animation Shop 3 for my stuff. The fact it's crummy, however, is all on me. I've seen people do lovely work with it.

I use paint.net V2.64 to cut and that, then nero photoviewer for effects

I use Paintshop Pro - even though its really rubbish. I sometimes use my mates program though... can't remember its name...

ive got adobe photoshop 7.0 and corel paint shop pro x but i only use paint shop pro x because photoshop is too complicated for me

and some things come out quite well in paint shop pro actually
